The Christmas Lights Switch On is a big event in Glasgow and a great way to kick off the festive period. This year it takes place on Thursday Nov 15, so if you can coincide a November trip with that date you’ll be rewarded with a fantastic evening to remember.
The action kicks off at 6pm and the event runs until 7.20pm, in Glasgow’s famous George Square. It is a ticketed event, with a ballot system in place to apply for tickets. However, with live music and a spectacular firework display, it’s an event that can be enjoyed from the surrounding streets and areas. Top tip – If you can get a window seat in a nearby restaurant or café then so much the better!

If Nov 15 is a touch too early for you, never fear – George Square will be buzzing with Christmas cheer from Nov 24 right through to Jan 6.
As well as the stunning illuminations, visitors will also find fairground rides, and, last but not least, an open air ice rink!
Open till 10pm nightly, this magical attraction offers an affordable activity for all ages to enjoy. There will be a half hour ‘penguin’ session daily, with cute skating aids for little ones. Check the website for details of timings.
St Andrew’s Day

Christmas isn’t the only fantastic festive event that Scotland has to look forward to during December. St Andrew’s day is one of the most important days in the Scottish calender and the Scots certainly do know how to celebrate it.
Join them in this Scottish extravaganza, for live music, street performers and traditional ceilidh dances, as well as fantastic traditional Scottish fare such as haggis, scotch broth, neeps n tatties and more (try the Winter Café Bar for a traditional menu)! Sure to be an amazing occasion for all!
